eCourse Technical Requirements

You are encouraged to check the “tech requirements” link at Online UW at http://ecampus.uwyo.edu found at the left side of the home page. Click on “Browser Test” to conduct an on-line test of your internet browser compatibility.

It is the responsibility of the student to have available the computer, software, and internet components listed below to properly engage in the Enterprising Rural Families on-line course. Please be sure your system meets these requirements before registering for the course.

For best viewing of Enterprising Rural Families course materials you should have:

For Microsoft Windows Operating System
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
For Macintosh Operating System
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 or higher
Screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels
A CD-ROM player
Access to FAX

The minimum system requirements you must have for viewing Enterprising Rural Families:

For Microsoft Windows OS
- Windows 98, 98Se, Me, NT, 2000, or XP
- 64 MB RAM
- 28.8 kbps modem (56K recommended)*
- Sound card & speakers
- Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0 or Netscape Communicator 4.77, 4.78, 4.79
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0
For Macintosh OS
- MacOS 8.1 – 9.1 (OS X 10.1 in “classic mode”)
- 128 MB RAM
- 28.8 kbps modem (56K recommended)*
- Sound card & speakers
- Internet Explorer 4.5, 5.0, 5.01 or Netscape Communicator 4.77, 4.78, 4.79
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0

The minimum feature requirements you must have to access certain features of Enterprising Rural Families:

For Microsoft Windows OS
- For ClassLive chat sessions:
  - 64 MB RAM
  - Sun’s Java 2 SDK (Java 1.3.1)
  - Microsoft JVM if you have Windows XP SP1
- To view videos:
  - Windows Media Player 7.0
For Macintosh OS
- For ClassLive chat sessions:
  - 128 MB RAM
  - Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 or higher
  - MacOS Classic Java (MRJ 2.2.5)
- To view videos:
  - Windows Media Player for Mac 7.1

* Regardless of modem speed your download of components may take some time. Videos, especially, must be buffered and may be choppy as they play or they may pause to add data to the buffer.
